Animals and Agriculture

These days have been busy in garden, in school and in life generally.  We did take a break for the day and head down to the zoo with friends.  It was such a fun day.

No, it's not the infamous April the Giraffe.

This big feline decided to take a nap in the shade.

Speaking of sleeping cats, we had 5 kittens born in the barn last night.

The upper field is a carpet of sweet smelling white clover but these two little buds of red clover popped up as well.

And I'm very excited because my Queen Ann's Lace is starting to bloom.

Jack and I have finished planting all the garden spots.  He's begun constructing some new tomato supports for me.  This mom is certainly glad he enjoys working outside with me!  He is such a help.

In addition to what was already growing, here's what went into the spring garden:
  • eggplant--Black Beauty
  • melons--Hale's Best, Edisto 47
  • watermelons--Ali Baba, Crimson Sweet
  • corn--Jackpot, Incredible, Silver Queen, Silver King, Indian Ornamental (from the Amish store)
  • peppers--Mini Bell, Cayenne, Indian Jwala, Habanero Blend, Satan's Kiss, Peter Pepper, Fushimi, Giant Ghost, Carolina Reaper, Hungarian Hot Wax, Big Dipper, Craig's Grande Jalapeno
  • tomatoes--San Marzano, Black Krim, Bonny Best, Jubilee, Principe
  • cucumbers--Boston Pickling, Sumter, Homemade Pickles
  • peanuts--Tennessee Red
  • field peas--Whipporwill, Lady Pea
  • green beans--Tendergreen, Cantare, Blue Lake

Now to weed it, water it, train it, pick it, can it.....
