December

It's time for some cool weather crops at last. Broccoli soup!
The weather here has actually been cool recently and we've had to break out the sweaters and jackets. Some areas of Georgia and Florida got snow. This week, however, temperatures are on the rise and we are expecting a balmy Christmas in the high seventies. Santa might come wearing shorts.

Cabbages are coming along.

We've also been picking mustard, radishes and a little lettuce. One brave bunny ventured into the garden and gobbled up ALL the spinach plants and nearly all the lettuce when they were young and tender. I found the cats dining on a dish of fattened rabbit that same day.

The chickens can't decide if they want to be inside or outside.

The poodle hibiscus has grown a lot this year.

Basil.
We also have oregano, dill, cilantro, rosemary, lemon balm, borage and thyme.

The always present eggs.
We found a new home for the older ladies of the flock. They went to someone who is just starting out with chickens. Our younger birds are proving very prolific in their egg laying. They keep us busy and customers happy.

awww nuts
Pecans keep me busy in the fall. I keep a bucket or two ready to shell when I sit down in the evening.

We've had a few strawberries in the warm weather of fall that managed to ripen before the frost got them.

A good crop of carrots in the fall garden.

We're decorated and ready for Christmas.

December mornings have such pretty sunrises.

A new vegetable we grew this year...cauliflower.

It grew well and was delicious. We still have more growing in the garden. I'll plant more in next year's fall garden. In the garden right now we have strawberries for spring, onions, carrots, mustard, radishes, lettuce, broccoli, cabbages, cauliflower, some sweet potatoes still to dig, beets and garlic.

Merry Christmas from our little farm.
