A Bit of Spring

Things are beginning to show signs of life as the weather warms up around here.  The berry bushes and canes that we planted are all doing well, the black raspberries are the first to really have their leaves out.  The blueberries are coming along as well.

The asparagus have begun poking up out of the dirt.  It sure was tempting to want to pick them.  Two years is a long time to wait!  The onions are all doing well, even the tiny ones I started from seed.  And the thing I wanted most to show you all...

Take a look at the pretty blossoms from the "orchard" (which right now looks like rows of sticks--you have to share my vision for what will be).

Peach blossom
Plum blossoms
Apple blossoms.  The Israeli variety I tried is the first to bloom.

And here's a look at the grape arbor we're working on.  The wires aren't up yet, but Jon and the boys have the posts in and Jon's made a bar support across the top.  It's modeled after one in the book 'The Planet Whizbang Idea Book for Gardeners' by Herrick Kimball.  It's packed with interesting ideas if you like to garden (And no, no one asked me to plug his book.  This is just friendly advice).

He also has an interesting blog you can check out:  thedeliberateagrarian.blogspot.com
