Blackberry Picking

Saturday was a busy one...more scrubbing.  But, it is starting to feel a little less like a house and a little more like our house.  I didn't figure you wanted to see any pictures of me mopping or vacuuming (not the prettiest sight) so I thought I'd share something yummy instead.

The first things we've "harvested" from the farm are some blackberries that grow wild along the fence.  Sadly, it wasn't enough for jelly--I really wanted to make blackberry jelly--but there was enough for a cobbler.  That's a delicious consolation.

Blackberries from the farm

Blackberry Cobbler

1 qt. (that's 4 cups) blackberries
1 1/2 c. sugar, divided
1 stick (1/2 c.) butter
3/4 c. all purpose flour
3/4 c. milk
2 tsp. baking powder

Cook berries and 1/2 cup of the sugar on low heat until it makes juice.  While it's heating, turn oven on to 350 degrees.  Place the stick of butter in a 13x9 pan and then into the oven until it melts.  Keep checking on it, you don't want your butter to brown.  Once it's melted, remove it from the oven.  Mix your remaining ingredients in a bowl.  Pour it over the melted butter--but DO NOT stir.  Spoon berries and juice over the batter--still DO NOT stir.  Bake for 1 hour.
